M.T.A. Loses Billboard Battle
After a five year battle over compliance regulations, ten billboard displays operated by CBS Outdoor through an exclusive partnership with the Metropolitan Transportation Authority have been declared by New York City’s Board of Standards and Appeals to be in violation of zoning regulations, and will soon be removed from service. The hard-fought dispute originated from a formal complaint issued by the city’s Buildings Department, citing a long-standing ordinance that prohibits billboards from being too close in proximity to major roadways where drivers might be easily distracted by the large signs.
